Capitol Hill Visits


SLI attendees will have the opportunity to advocate for the profession of pharmacy on Capitol Hill. Prior to SLI, APhA will work with designated student leaders to schedule the visits on behalf of attendees. To prepare all attendees to meet with their Congressional members, APhA-ASP hosted webinars with information on logistics, talking points, and tips for making your meeting a success.

If you originally indicated that you were not interested in a Hill Visit on Friday morning at SLI and/or did not fill out the information on the registration form about your government officials, please fill out this form ( so that you can attend a Hill Visit. We want to ensure that everyone has the chance for this unique opportunity to advocate on behalf of the profession of pharmacy! 

Hill Visits will occur on Friday, July 19 from 9:45 am-12:00 pm. Please know that we will provide education and talking points to conduct yourself at a Hill Visit. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding Hill Visits please email Matthew Broadwater at



There are two required webinars for you to participate in prior to arriving in D.C. The APhA Government Affairs team will offer insight on your important role in advocacy, share talking points for your meetings, and provide logistic information for the visits. APhA staff and student leaders will be on the line to answer your questions.

APhA Opportunities Roundtables

Meet one-on-one with APhA Staff and APhA-ASP leaders to learn about the resources and opportunities available for you. 

National Mall Tour

The APhA-ASP National Executive Committee will be hosting an optional, walking tour of the National Mall for SLI attendees on Friday evening. Attendees will be divided into groups by Region for the tour.

  • Regions 1 & 2: David Giang
  • Region 3: Sydney Tu
  • Region 4: Matthew Broadwater
  • Regions 5 & 7: Ellie Tupper
  • Region 6: Andrea McDonald
  • Region 8: Kelli Jo Welter

The tour will last approximately 2.5 hours from 7:15 pm to 10:30 pm, and will end at the Washington Plaza, the SLI2019 headquarter hotel. The total distance of the tour is roughly 3 miles. The tour will depart from APhA headquarters and stops will include:

  • Einstein Monument
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorial
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • Korean War Veterans Memorial
  • Reflecting Pool
  • World War II Memorial
  • Washington Monument
  • White House
